Details
In the 1950s, Tom Ripley, a lavatory attendant in Manhattan, is given the opportunity to escape his mundane life when he is mistaken for a Princeton graduate. Tom seizes the chance and is offered $1,000 to go to Italy and convince Dickie Greenleaf, the son of a wealthy man, to return home. In Italy, Tom befriends Dickie and his fiancée, Marge, using his talent for deception and impressions to fit into their world. As he indulges in luxury and pretends to share Dickie's interests, Tom develops homoerotic feelings for him.
However, when Dickie grows tired of Tom and dismisses him, Tom becomes desperate to maintain the privileges he has experienced.
