Rescue Dawn (2006) takes viewers back to 1965 during the Vietnam War. The film follows the thrilling story of Dieter Dengler, a German-American US Navy pilot. While on a classified mission bombing Laos, his propeller plane is hit and crashes deep in the unforgiving jungle.

Arrested by peasants, Dieter is soon captured and tortured by the Vietcong, landing him in a brutal prisoner camp. Inside, he encounters five other mentally deranged prisoners and their ruthless guards. Dieter forms a strong bond with Duane and hatches a daring escape plan. However, not everyone in the group embraces Dieter's audacious idea, as the unstable Gene stands in opposition.

As if their situation wasn't dire enough, the group faces the harsh realities of their surroundings. American bombings have decimated the surrounding area, leaving them with no access to food. As their guards grow increasingly dangerous, Dieter executes his escape strategy. Yet, a shocking betrayal fractures the group, leaving Dieter and Duane trapped in the treacherous jungle.
