Details
Yes, God, Yes is a comedic coming-of-age film set in the early 2000s that explores the taboo topic of teenage sexuality within the context of Catholicism. Alice, a devout Catholic teenager, innocently engages in an AOL chat that takes an unexpected and explicit turn, leading her to discover masturbation. However, plagued by guilt and fear of eternal damnation, she embarks on a journey to suppress her newfound desires.
As Alice attends a religious retreat, her internal struggle intensifies as she grapples with her conflicting feelings. She seeks guidance from her peers, who share their own experiences and secrets surrounding sexuality. Along the way, Alice encounters a priest struggling with his own desires, which challenges her perception of the Catholic doctrine.
The film skillfully portrays Alice's navigation of her sexual awakening in a humorous and relatable manner, shedding light on the hypocrisy and repression prevalent in religious communities. With its nostalgic early 2000s setting and authentic portrayal of teenage confusion and curiosity, Yes, God, Yes offers a refreshingly honest take on the challenges faced by young people struggling to reconcile their desires with their faith.
This insightful and entertaining film ultimately emphasizes the importance of self-discovery and acceptance, encouraging viewers to question and challenge societal norms. Yes, God, Yes is a thought-provoking and light-hearted exploration of a teenager's journey towards understanding her own desires and finding her place in the world.
