In the action-packed sci-fi film District 9 (2009), violence erupts in Johannesburg, South Africa, after an alien race, known as the Prawns, is forced to live in dire slum-like conditions on Earth. The story centers around Wikus van de Merwe, a well-meaning government agent who becomes exposed to the aliens' biotechnology and begins to transform.
As tensions rise between humans and the alien Prawns, Wikus finds himself becoming a target of both the government and the extraterrestrials.
